Giveaway Day #1 - Review - "Darkness of Light" by Stacey Marie Brown

As many of you may already know, I had the pleasure of meeting the beautiful and talented Stacey Marie Brown at UtopYA2014 this summer. Our meeting was complete craziness because she put me to work! While author's were setting up their signing tables the night before the event started, Tammie Zimmerman and I were standing around with Nancy Straight talking to various authors. And then here comes Stacey and S. M. Boyce needing help carrying books down from their rooms. I'm not complaining though, because if I had not have been recruited for this late night delivery work, I never would have gotten to meet such a wonderful author who I proudly call my friend! Since I helped carry her books around, I thought it only fair to buy her first book, Darkness of Light, for my Nook and see what kind of author she is. Let me tell you, I was hooked within the first chapter. Now that I've finished the series, I wanted to celebrate with a four day review reveal and giveaway! Today's book is . . . you guessed it! . . . Darkness of Light (Darkness Series #1)

Overview

Freak. Witch. Crazy. Schizo.

Ember Brycin has been called them all. She’s always known she’s different. No one has ever called her normal, even under the best circumstances. Bizarre and inexplicable things continually happen to her, and having two different colored eyes, strange hair, and an unusual tattoo only contributes to the gossip about her.

When the latest school explosion lands her in a facility for trouble teens, she meets Eli Dragen, who’s hot as hell and darkly mysterious. Their connection is full of passion, danger, and secrets. Secrets that will not only change her life, but what and who she is—leading her down a path she never imagined possible.

Between Light and Dark, Ember finds a world where truth and knowledge are power and no one can be trusted. But her survival depends on finding out the truth about herself. In her pursuit, she is forced between love and destiny and good and evil, even when the differences between them aren’t always clear. At worst, she will incite a war that could destroy both worlds. At best, she will not only lose her heart but her life and everyone she loves. Once the truth is out, however, there will be no going back. And she’ll definitely wish she could.

About the Author

She is a lover of hot fictional bad boys and sarcastic heroines who kick butt. She also enjoys books, travel, TV shows, hiking, writing, design, and archery. Stacey swears she is part gypsy, being lucky enough to live and travel all over the world.

She grew up in Northern California, where she ran around on her family's farm, raising animals, riding horses, playing flashlight tag, and turning hay bales into cool forts. She volunteers helping animals and is Eco-friendly. She feels all animals, people and environment should be treated kindly.

My Take

Darkness of Light sucked me straight into the story within the first page. Opening with Ember and her best friends Kennedy (who I absolutely adore and relate!) and Ryan (ok, I relate to him too!), I couldn't help but feel the bond of their friendship and thought of some of my closest friends. I knew exactly how they felt about each other.

The book takes off fairly quickly, as strange happenings seem to occur around Ember that she cannot help but feel responsible for, even though she cannot imagine how she could cause their occurrence. After an incident at her school, she is force to attend a "special" school for troubled teens. . . and welcome Eli Dragen, one of the hottest bad boys I've ever read about if I do say so myself! Eli works with the troubled teens, but he and Ember do not mesh well together. However, the two are forced to deal with each other and one of the best Love/Hate relationships gets its start.

Although Ember's relationship with Eli is the one we find ourselves routing for, Stacey created so many wonderful relationships for Ember that I loved reading about. Her best friends Kennedy and Ryan are awesome and I could not help but smile and laugh at the scenes when they were together goofing off. And I could never forget about Mark, Ember's step-father, who is one of the most caring and loving parents Ember could ask for. The story is full of emotion, struggle, friendship, and loss, all of which help pull the reader into the pages.

Overall, I give this book

This book was absolutely awesome! The story between Ember and Eli is like stoking a fire to get the low glow to become a blazing fire. The book had me guessing until the end about Ember and what secret Eli was keeping from her. The book is such a fun read and the story had me hanging onto every page!
