Overview

Some days feel like years, but in Ember Brycin’s case just the opposite is true. She had only been in the Otherworld for a day or two when she escaped with her mom, Kennedy, and Jared to the Earth realm. But it’s three years later on Earth. Em would be 22 now—if she was a human. But she’s not. She is a Dae—part Demon and part Fay—with a little Dark Dweller thrown in to make her even more of a freak.

One thing that hasn’t changed, though, is her undeniable connection to Eli Dragen, who is sexy, gorgeous, and even more frustrating. But her problems go way past him.

The Seelie Queen of the Otherworld still holds Mark, Em’s father, and her friends, Ryan, and Josh as hostages. Em needs to rescue them without, once again, getting caught and being used as a pawn to help the Queen regain possession of Earth. At the same time Lars, the Unseelie King, reminds Em she is bound to him and has to locate the Sword of Light to fulfill the prophesy and kill the Queen.

As the tension for war mounts between the Seelie and Unseelie (Light and Dark), the tension at the Dark Dweller’s compound mounts even more as they prepare to obtain the sword no matter what the price. But is Ember the answer to the location of the sword? Is she the one to fulfill the prophecy? As usual nothing is ever what it seems.

About the Author

She is a lover of hot fictional bad boys and sarcastic heroines who kick butt. She also enjoys books, travel, TV shows, hiking, writing, design, and archery. Stacey swears she is part gypsy, being lucky enough to live and travel all over the world.

She grew up in Northern California, where she ran around on her family's farm, raising animals, riding horses, playing flashlight tag, and turning hay bales into cool forts. She volunteers helping animals and is Eco-friendly. She feels all animals, people and environment should be treated kindly.

My Take

Dwellers of Darkness picks up right after Ember, her friends, and family get back from the Otherworld. The worst part for the characters and best part for the reader is that time flows differently in the Otherworld than it does on Earth. This allows for a great time jump by the author to a time after Eli thought Ember was dead. While he has gone through years of emotions he doesn't understand, only hours have passed for Ember. Coming back to this new Eli is both exhilarating and disconcerting for Ember as she struggles to determine if they could ever truly be together.

One of my favorite things about this book is we get to spend more time with Kennedy, who has been locked up by the Seelie Queen in the Otherworld. Kennedy is learning more each day about her Druid powers; she and Ember have some very real, emotional moments as they work to build a new form of friendship after the changes each has endured.

The ending of this book is crazy  . . . even more crazy than its predecessors. Ember, Eli, Lars, Kennedy, and the whole gang think they have finally found the location to the Sword of Light, which Ember desperately needs to defeat the Seelie Queen who is intent on using Ember's powers for her own selfish desire of world domination. The group heads out to obtain the Sword of Light and, as always, trouble ensues. The ending of this book had me grasping at every page, hoping what I was reading would turn into a dream and we could all go back to the comfy, cozy world we like to live in. After you've read Stacey's books, you learn that she is not an author who likes to present things in neat packages. She does use pretty paper and a bow, but then she steps on it and throws some blood on it! However, this is why I love her writing so much; she is an author that leaves an impression and keeps you hooked. This is definitely a book that I would look at the clock at 1:00 am and think "just one more chapter!"

Overall, I give this book

The sheer craziness of the ending alone make me give it 5 Stars, but overall, I loved the entire book. Stacey certainly knows how to keep you laughing, crying, and screaming right along with her characters.
